Having some schooling in economics, I'm wondering about the effects of Shuttle astronaut Lisa Nowak's diaper decision on the market for Halloween costumes. (Amazing how her intensive training and knowledge of equipment still occupied a brain awash in loopy madness.)

An adult diaper is low cost. But a decent-looking space helmet can inflate the aggregate price of the ensemble. Still, the whole package should have a lower price point than a life-like Katie Couric mask and hospital colonoscopy equipment. We'll just have to see.

I liked this Superbowl commercial for the NFL Network, called "Hanging With Chad", and clearly built for repeated viewing via the internet and morning show analyses (how else to identify all of the party-ers; how else to catch Jimmy Fallon eating a potato chip off the floor?)

This kind of detailed viewing and analysis opens the possibility for multiple sponsorship and product placement. The ad sells snacks, music, Martha Stewart's programming, and more. And until the tagline for NFL Network, I thought it was a promo for Major League Soccer, now fortified with Beckham.

It stood out also in a lineup of suprisingly violent ads this year for its secondary meanings of diversity and peaceful coexistence. The party is a melting pot organized around football (or is it around celebrity?) Johnson warmly greets white country music star Rascal Flatts; Reggie Bush is scolded by Martha Stewart for a kitchen mistake.

I've yet to sort out David Letterman. Does he affirm a deep kind of sincerity with his ironic posture? This 10-second CBS promo with Oprah (another inter-racial embrace) was sweetly silly and sweetly sweet.
